With nearly 20 years of experience in litigation insurance and finance, Robert Warner is one of the UK’s most seasoned and respected brokers in the field. He is a Director of TheJudge Group, where he leads on the placement of complex litigation insurance arrangements for a global client base, including elite law firms, litigation funders, financial institutions, insolvency practitioners, and corporates.

Robert’s expertise spans a wide range of risk-transfer solutions across the UK, Europe, the US, Australia and offshore jurisdictions such as the Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands. He is widely regarded as a specialist in structuring multi-layered litigation insurance solutions, including creative portfolio arrangements, subscription-based risk transfer frameworks, and bespoke contingent insurance placements.

Before joining TheJudge in 2016, Robert held senior underwriting roles and this dual experience as both broker and underwriter gives him rare insight into the decision-making dynamics of litigation insurers and funders - allowing him to anticipate objections, structure proposals for optimal approval, and significantly reduce transaction timelines.

Robert is particularly experienced in competition and antitrust litigation, international arbitration (including ICSID, ICC, UNCITRAL, and LCIA matters), patent infringement and insolvency disputes. He has successfully arranged, structured and managed policies involving many industry firsts, including landmark cases in the UK’s Competition Appeal Tribunal and the Unified Patent Court that have helped frame the use of insurance and security for costs in many jurisdictions and, as such, is a recognised thought leader in the evolution of litigation risk transfer and continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible in this fast-developing sector.
