Mr. Cowart is chair of Baker Donelson's Health Law and Public Policy Department and a past-president of the American Bar Association. He concentrates his practice in advising Boards and Senior Management regarding policy, regulatory and business issues related to healthcare. Mr. Cowart serves as strategic counsel to health care companies, both for-profit and not-for-profit, and has been lead counsel on multiple billion dollar health system combinations. He is a frequent author and speaker on health law topics.
Licensed in Mississippi since 1978; in Tennessee since 1999.
Mr. Cowart is a Fellow of the American Health Lawyers Association. He is a recipient of the David R. Greenburg Award for Lifetime Service to Health Law and served for over 10 years on the editorial board of the Journal of Life Science and Health Law.
