Career

Rania Khoury is a partner at Abou Jaoude & Associates Law Firm, and heads the Dispute Resolution practice. Before joining the Firm, she worked at prestigious law firms in Paris, such as Dentons, Gide Loyrette Nouel, and CMS Francis Lefebvre Avocats, as well as at the Supreme Court of Arizona in the United States.

Rania has gained over 25 years of international multidisciplinary expertise covering advisory, transactional, corporate restructuring, corporate law, intellectual property, entertainment law, franchising, and complex litigation, with a particular focus on high-stakes domestic and international arbitration in Paris, the US, Africa and the MENA region.

With a broadly focused arbitration practice, Rania has extensive experience representing major clients against notably sovereign states in winning complex high-stake domestic and international arbitration cases under the rules of all major arbitral institutions in Europe, Africa and the MENA region (including ICC, ICSID, OHADA and LAMC), and in ad-hoc proceedings. Her practice spans across many industries, with a particular sector experience in capital markets, banking and finance, construction, energy, corporate, media, and intellectual property.

Rania is regularly solicited to serve as arbitrator on key arbitration disputes in front notably of the ICC, LAMC and in ad hoc arbitrations.

She is a delegate to the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR, a member of the ICC Task Force on Emergency Arbitrator Proceedings, and serves on the Beirut Bar Intellectual Property Commission.

She is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) and the International Bar Association (IBA).

She actively contributes to legal reform, notably through her participation in committees revising the arbitration rules of institutions such as the ICC, LAMC, and LIAC-BBA.

She also teaches at the Faculty of Law of Saint Joseph University and the LAMC International Arbitration Certified Program.

Her expertise further includes advising on the acquisition, commercialization, protection, licensing and enforcement of all types of intellectual property rights (trademarks, designs, models, copyright, know-how, domain names, professional secrecy), as well as acting on both contentious and non-contentious issues in the press, audio-visual, technology (internet, software, databases, e-commerce) and media sectors.

Rania is consistently recognized by prominent international directories, including Chambers & Partners and The Legal 500 in the practice area of ‘Dispute Resolution’.
