Pitso Kortjaas is a partner in Baker McKenzie's Banking & Finance Practice Group in Johannesburg. He has experience in both finance and debt capital markets and advises domestic and international banking, corporate and public sector clients.
He has represented and advised lenders (both local and international financial institutions), borrowers, arrangers, dealers and issuers on general corporate law matters and finance and debt capital markets transactions, which include structured finance, leveraged finance, real estate finance, acquisition finance, medium term note programmes, inward listings, convertible, exchangeable, and standalone bond transactions, including government bonds, combinations of debt and equity transactions, high yield bonds, secured bonds and securitisations.
Pitso also advised on the first sustainability-linked loan in South Africa, the continent’s first sustainability-linked bond on the JSE, as well as the first green bond listing on the JSE by a municipal entity in Africa. Prior to joining Baker McKenzie, Pitso was a partner at a large South African law firm and joint head of its Consumer Goods, Services & Retail sector.
