Peter is the Head of Herbert Smith Freehill's Energy Sector in Australia and has specialised in the energy sector for more than 20 years. He is an energy and infrastructure technical expert, advising clients on acquisitions, disposals and structuring and project development. He also regularly assists on complex wholesale and retail energy contracting, regulatory matters and market reform.

Peter has developed an exemplary reputation by advising a range of energy industry participants and investors as well as governments and regulators including the NSW and Queensland Governments, AGL Energy, Origin Energy, Iberdrola, IFM, Copenhagen Infrastructure, Genex, IFM Investors, Edify Energy and FGEN LNG.

Work Highlights

Peter’s recent experience includes a number of deals that are facilitating the energy transition, including advising:

• FGEN LNG on the infrastructure lease of the first LNG import terminal in the Philippines and renegotiating related gas and power supply agreements

• Mitsui on the sale of their 23% stake in the international power joint venture to Engie

• Woodside on their JV in relation to the LNG export terminal located in Burrup, Western Australia. The project is replacing the current gas turbines used to generate electricity with an offsite solar/battery hybrid plant and onsite battery

• Copenhagen Infrastructure on the acquisition of the ACE Power portfolio

• RATCH on the offtake arrangement for Marulan/Starfish/Collector projects

• AGL on the Acacia Offshore Wind Farm and Project Morona

• AGL on the Supernode BESS offtake

• METKA EGN Australia on the acquisition of Wyalong Solar Farm from ESCO
