"Because of its strong regulatory framework and growing consumption market, Colombia offers a wide range of business opportunities for companies in the energy and mining sectors.

Baker McKenzie has unparalleled experience in the wider energy market. A preeminent oil and gas practice, with top clients in both upstream and midstream, is now combined with strong capabilities in the renewables environment.

The Firm's expertise encompasses proven transactional capabilities, with some of the most significant M&A deals in the past decade and a superb regulatory team (including oil and gas, power regulation, environmental law and community relations). This expertise is also used in supporting the disputes team in specialized cases.

Our mining and metals practice is unique in the Colombian market. We are experts in mining regulation and mineral development agreements of all sorts, such as mineral services agreements, offtakes, net smelter return agreements, joint ventures, options and even streaming arrangements. Most importantly, our team members come from the mining industry and thus know first-hand what is required to develop mineral exploration and development of projects. We assist our clients in all stages of a project, from its conception through to its full deployment. We have visited our clients’ mines and understand the reality and technicalities behind mining operations. This is what differentiates us from the lot.

We have the widest experience in mining matters at the local and regional level. We are a leading firm in advising mining companies on regulatory, transactional and development issues of their projects and operations.

We look to provide our clients with legal advice that is useful for them, providing clear paths to resolving any issues and navigating our way through the most challenging conditions to provide comprehensive legal advice that they can implement in their day-to-day businesses. We always opt to provide clients a business-oriented approach that really suits their needs, and we go the extra mile to offer solutions they can actually deploy in their businesses."
