Practice Areas
As a general practitioner of public international law, Nicolas Angelet has built a distinctive profile through a broad and varied practice. He acts both as an arbitrator and as counsel before major international courts and tribunals, including the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS), and the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR), as well as the Court of Justice of the European Union and domestic courts across multiple jurisdictions. His work spans a wide spectrum of public international law.
Career
Nicolas Angelet is an attorney at the Brussels Bar and an Associate Tenant of Doughty Street Chambers, London.
He is also a professor of public international law at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium where he teaches international economic law, international investment law and dispute settlement, and international law issues of climate change. In 2023-2026 he is a professor at Ghent University, Belgium, where I am in charge of the general course of public international law, and peaceful settlement of international disputes. He is or has been a visiting faculty member in various universities in France, Italy, the United Arab Emirates and Sweden.
Professional Memberships
Nicolas Angelet is the current president of the Belgian Society of International Law, and a member of the American Society of International Law, the German Society of International Law, the French Society of International Law, the Investment Treaty Forum of the British Institute of International and Comparative Law, among others.

Nicolas Angelet has published extensively on various topics of international law, including international investment law and dispute settlement, immunities, sources of international law, the law of state responsibility and climate change.
