Michael von Loewenfeldt is a partner with the Complex Appellate Litigation Group. He has argued more than 50 appeals in the California Courts of Appeal, the Ninth and Federal Circuits, and the Washington State Supreme Court and Court of Appeals. For nearly 20 years, he has represented both plaintiffs and defendants, including corporations, local and state government agencies, and individuals, in a wide range of areas including employment, constitutional, tort, consumer protection, insurance, arbitration, defamation, and government law.
Michael has been certified as a specialist since 2017 and is a member of the California Academy of Appellate Lawyers. He serves on the Executive Committee of the Bar Association of San Francisco Appellate Section, where he was Chair from 2021-2023, and the Executive Committee for the Alameda County Bar Association’s Appellate Section.
With a decade of trial experience before specializing in appeals, Michael is frequently asked to assist trial counsel with writing and opposing critical pre-trial, trial, and post-trial motions, along with consulting on appellate-related trial strategy.
He graduated Order of the Coif from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law. After graduating, Michael clerked for Judge Saundra Brown Armstrong of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. He earned his undergraduate degree from San Diego State University, graduating magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa.
