Michael A Caplan

Michael Caplan, a founding partner of Caplan Cobb, serves as trial and appellate counsel in complex business disputes, constitutional cases, and class actions.

Mike’s work has been the subject of news coverage in the New York Times, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and the Fulton County Daily Report. He’s ranked by Chambers USA in both commercial litigation and appellate; named by Best Lawyers as the 2026 “Lawyer of the Year” in antitrust and listed in Best Lawyers in America for commercial litigation, antitrust, and media law; ranked by the Legal 500 for commercial disputes; and repeatedly been named to Super Lawyers’ list of the Top 100 lawyers in Georgia. Mike has also been selected among the “Legal Elite in Business Law” by Georgia Trend Magazine, and Martindale-Hubbell has honored Mike with its highest rating of AV Preeminent for his legal ability and professional ethics. Mike has also served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Georgia School of Law.

Prior to founding Caplan Cobb, Mike served as a law clerk to the Honorable Richard W. Story in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia and practiced at Bondurant, Mixson & Elmore LLP.

Mike serves as lead counsel to Fortune 100 companies, closely-held businesses, directors, corporate officers, entrepreneurs, and investors. His experience spans a broad array of complex business litigation. He has recovered over $300 million on behalf of business plaintiffs in antitrust, contract, fiduciary-duty, trade secret, and RICO actions. Mike has also successfully defended companies in SEC, FTC, and CFPB investigations and business tort cases.

Class Actions

Mike prosecutes and defends class actions involving antitrust, employment benefits, telecommunications, and securities fraud. He has successfully represented plaintiffs and defendants in high-stakes class actions, securing significant recoveries and favorable resolutions.

Appellate Practice

Mike is known for his appellate work, described as “exceptional,” “of the highest quality,” and “meticulous and incredibly thorough.” He works closely with trial counsel to ensure that appeals are effectively handled, often securing favorable outcomes in complex appellate matters.
