With a decade of intensive field R&D experience in the semiconductor industry and more than fifteen years as a lawyer, Meng Ding focuses his legal practice on advising companies, especially technology companies, in the Greater China and other Asia areas, frequently working on transactions that define these companies’ growth and success, from early-stage financing to listing to post-listing matters.
Meng Ding has advised on numerous Hong Kong IPOs, U.S. IPOs and bond offerings, including some of Greater China’s largest, most complex and precedent-setting transactions. In 2024, Meng Ding advised on the first Hong Kong listings under Listing Rules Chapter 18C and 18B, two of the most consequential new listing regimes the Hong Kong Stock Exchange enacted in recent years. Meng Ding is notable for his ground-up approach to gain deep understanding of various industries, ranging from e-commerce platforms to specialist hard-tech companies such as semiconductor, AI, robotics, autonomous driving companies to life science and pharmaceutical firms to financial institutions.
Meng received a Bachelor’s degree in physics from Peking University and a Ph.D. in physics from M.I.T. Before becoming a corporate lawyer he was a Silicon Valley technologist, innovating at semiconductor powerhouses like IBM and AMD. He holds 32 issued U.S. patents. He remains a technology enthusiast ever since and stays closely connected to the tech community, particularly in Greater China. His unique knowledge and experience distinguish him when advising technology issuers, especially hard-tech and deep-tech companies, where insights and in-depth knowledge are essential to understanding their technology roadmap, product evolution, and industry landscape.
