Melanie's intellectual property and complex commercial litigation practice encompasses patent, trademark, copyright, class actions, regulatory and technology disputes. Known for her bold and creative approach to advocacy, she is adept at devising strategic options and navigating cross-border issues. Melanie is the go-to Canadian litigation adviser for a wide array of world-leading clients and the head of Tyr’s IP Litigation Team.

Melanie is recognized as a leading litigator both in Canada and globally. She was named IP Litigator of the Year by Benchmark in 2022 and 2023, and the team she built was named IP Firm of the Year in 2025. Melanie is ranked as one of the Top 50 Trial Lawyers in Canada, Top 250 Women in IP worldwide, and is recognized by Chambers, Legal 500, IAM Patent, Managing IP and Lexpert.

Melanie excels at litigating precedent-setting cases (including arguing before the Supreme Court of Canada). She acted on the first biologic and first biosimilar drug patent cases in Canada.
