Matthew is a Partner and Head of the EU and Competition team.
He advises on behavioural competition law and UK and multi-jurisdictional merger control. His behavioural work includes advising national and multi-national clients on pricing and distribution strategies and abuse of dominance issues. He has advised a number of motor vehicle manufacturers and other suppliers on the implementation of selective distribution systems as well as extensively advising retail sector clients on online sales strategies.
He has defended numerous clients in investigations by the CMA, the UK’s concurrent competition law regulators and the European Commission as well as making leniency and immunity applications and dealing with CMA warning letters. His experience includes bringing a successful penalty appeal before the Competition Appeal Tribunal for a client against the OFT’s construction decision. This year, he has advised and continues to advise clients in relation to investigations by two of the UK’s concurrent competition law regulators.
He advises on developing and implementing tailored competition law compliance programmes including running training/workshop sessions for employees and putting in place internet-based training modules. This year, he has provided compliance training to a number of well-known companies and trade associations including key players in the agronomy sector.
