Career

Matthew Burke has more than 30 years of experience representing insurers in claims and litigation. His practice encompasses all forms of insurance and commercial insurance policies, including first-party property, professional liability, representations and warranties, tax, third-party liability, and reinsurance. Matthew has handled multiple arbitrations and litigated matters in state and federal court across the country.

During his career, Matthew has worked on insurance coverage cases involving a number of high-profile natural and man-made catastrophes, including Hurricane Katrina, Superstorm Sandy, West Virginia mine explosions, and various insurance claims related to the 9/11 terrorist attack. His experience includes cases seeking coverage under property and liability policies for losses arising out of COVID-19 pandemic; claims advice and arbitration under representation and warranty policies; and claims advice and litigation under various professional liability and Directors and Officers insurance policies. Matthew also has extensive experience working with the Lloyd’s insurance market, acting as coordinating counsel for complex and recurring first-party property claims. . More recently, Matt has represented insurers in litigation and arbitration involving representations and warranties policies.

Matthew’s significant non-insurance matters include the trial of two wrongful termination cases on behalf of a government contractor; acting as second chair in multiple eminent domain trials; and handling various RICO, and contract and securities litigation.
