For decades, I have had the privilege of representing business executives, labor leaders, public officials, securities traders, physicians, attorneys, and other individuals facing government investigations and prosecutions. Together with a highly experienced team of white-collar criminal defense lawyers, I have been chief trial counsel in a myriad of criminal offense matters, including business and securities fraud, money laundering, healthcare fraud, racketeering, internet gambling offenses, bribery, extortion, obstruction of justice, embezzlement, and tax offenses
Corporations retain my team to represent executives seeking to avoid indictment or successfully defend against criminal charges. Likewise, individuals who are targets of government investigations or have already been charged turn to us to help prevent prosecution, secure favorable resolutions, or prevail at trial and on appeal. In 2022 I was the recipient of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) Lifetime Achievement Award and remain its co-chair of the Lawyers Assistance Strike Force which represents criminal defense lawyers who are unfairly targeted by prosecutors for their Sixth Amendment legal work.
Our practice is built around three interrelated specialties.
First, we are experienced trial lawyers. Drawing on hundreds of criminal trials, we know how to investigate, prepare, and litigate complex white-collar cases efficiently and effectively. Throughout my career, I have focused on developing compelling and often innovative legal and factual defenses to federal or, less often, state white-collar prosecutions. Every representation begins with thorough trial preparation with the goal to succeed at trial. Readiness to try a case not only positions clients for success in court but also enhances our ability to negotiate favorable outcomes when a client elects to pursue a resolution short of trial.
Second, we provide focused and cost-effective pre-indictment representation. Working with small, experienced teams, we investigate allegations, develop persuasive defenses, and engage proactively with prosecutors in an effort to prevent charges altogether or significantly narrow the scope and severity of any eventual prosecution.
Third, we maintain a nationally recognized federal appellate practice. We have briefed and argued cases before the United States Supreme Court, numerous federal courts of appeals, and most frequently the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Examples of our appellate work and notable decisions can be found throughout our website.
