Career
Seasoned litigator Marc Beauchemin is a key player on Montréal’s municipal and legal scene.
As Chair of De Grandpré Chait's Board of Directors and Executive Committee, Marc plays a central role within the firm. His legal practice has two foci. In his first area of practice, municipal law, he represents the private interests of his clients, particularly major property owners, in the context of real estate developments throughout Québec. He and his specialized team handle complex public law and zoning litigation cases and frequently negotiate agreements pertaining to these issues with public authorities.
Marc also maintains a highly sophisticated major litigation practice, which covers class action suits. His resounding victory before the Québec Court of Appeal in the largest class action suit in Canadian legal history (a case involving the Québec Council on Tobacco and Health and the three major Canadian cigarette manufacturers) has established Marc as an authority in this field.
Marc has extensive experience and an impressive track record in all areas of his practice. He has pleaded before all levels of court, including the Supreme Court and, on more than fifty occasions, the Québec Court of Appeal, where he has represented governments, major Canadian companies, important real estate developers, national interest groups, etc. Marc wields this vast skill and expertise to defend his clients’ interests before all public authorities.
