Manuel Contreras has over 20 years of experience in EU competition law. He is an expert at advising clients on all aspects of EU and Spanish competition law, including in particular merger control, cartels, foreing investment and foreign subsidies investigations. Manuel has advised foreign state owned enterprises and sovereign funds on M&A and public procurement matters under applicable EU rules.
As a competition litigator, he has conducted complex competition disputes (both regulatory appeals and private enforcement). Manuel has represented clients before national competition authorities and the European Commission, in the National High Court, Superior Courts of Justice and Provincial and Commercial Courts. He is lead counsel in arbitration proceedings before International Chamber of Commerce in a major international dispute involving competition law.
