Luiz Edgard Montaury Pimenta is a trial lawyer, Industrial Property Agent, and the firm’s senior partner. With over 30 years of experience in the Intellectual Property field, he heads the firm’s Litigation team, as well as coordinates different departments within the firm. He is currently President of the international association The Global Network of National IP Practitioner Associations (GNIPA), a board member of GLIPA (Global IP Alliance), a member of SACEPO (Standing Advisory Committee before the European Patent Office)´s Working Party on Quality and was the president of ABPI (Brazilian Association of Intellectual Property) from 2018 to 2021.
Luiz is a member of AASP (São Paulo Lawyer´s Association), a member of ABPI ( Brazilian Association of Intellectual Property) and a member of FICPI (International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys), a member of the 5G Special Commission, Technical Standards and Technological Innovation (CEPTIT) of the Rio de Janeiro Bar Association (OAB/RJ), a member of the Intellectual Property Task Force of AMCHAM (American Chamber of Commerce in Brazil) and a panelist at the domain names dispute resolution centers of WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization), NAF (National Arbitration Forum) and ABPI and, as such, has been responsible for several important decisions involving cross-border IP disputes.
Recognized by the highest national and international rankings, he is an active speaker at IP events in Brazil, USA, Latin America and Europe and is the author of numerous publications in his area of expertise. In 2021, in recognition of the relevant services that Luiz has been providing to the legal practice, in the PI area, the Rio de Janeiro State School of Judiciary (EMERJ), awarded him the EMERJ MEDAL OF MERIT.
