Career
With more than 20 years of experience in civil and commercial litigation, Luis is the Managing Partner of Bufete Asali since its foundation in 2012. Throughout his career, Luis has merged his thorough knowledge of civil and commercial law with his leadership and ability to explain the most complex matters in the simplest terms, which has allowed him to design winning strategies in over 500 disputes.
Luis’ practice has focused primarily on civil, commercial, administrative, and constitutional litigation before state and federal courts, including Mexico’s Supreme Court of Justice. Luis has additionally led successful strategies in a wide variety of arbitration proceedings under ICC, LCIA, CAM, CANACO, and HKIAC rules. Luis has been involved in cases related to a wide array of industries, such as construction, energy, finance, banking, telecommunications, entertainment, and aeronautics. He has also acted as an expert on Mexican law before foreign courts.
Luis has been involved in several impact litigation initiatives aimed at promoting the rule of law in Mexico, as well as drawing media attention to questionable government practices.
Personal
Luis has over 15 years of teaching experience in some of the most prestigious universities in Mexico, such as Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM), Universidad Panamericana and Escuela Libre de Derecho. His teaching areas include Torts and Contracts, as well Civil Procedure, and Amparo. He is frequently invited to participate as a speaker and lecturer before judges, legislators, and scholars. Among other relevant publications, Luis co-authored the Mexican chapter for the prestigious Global Arbitration Review of the Americas for 2023.
