Career
Livia Sancio has extensive experience in dispute resolution, with a strong focus on litigation, arbitration, and pre-litigation strategies. She also specializes in legal consultancy and contract analysis, demonstrating in-depth expertise in high-stakes strategic disputes.
She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Faculdade de Direito de Vitória (FDV) and an LL.M. in Maritime Law from the University of Southampton (United Kingdom). Additionally, she is a certified specialist in Maritime Law from FGV/RJ and in Oil and Gas Law from the Brazilian Institute of Oil and Gas (IBP). She has also completed the Oxford Women’s Leadership Development Programme at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.
Livia has been recognized by Análise Advocacia and Análise Advocacia Mulher in the maritime sector, with the latter also acknowledging her expertise in Regulatory Law, Corporate Contracts, Arbitration, Civil Law, and Transport and Logistics. In both rankings, she is listed among the most admired legal professionals in Rio de Janeiro. Since 2023, she has also been recognized by Leaders League as a leading professional in Maritime Law and Civil and Commercial Litigation, and by The Legal 500 in the Shipping category.
She currently serves as Vice President of the Maritime, Port, and Admiralty Law Committee of the Brazilian Bar Association in Rio de Janeiro (OAB/RJ) and is a member of the Maritime, Port, and Customs Law Committee of the OAB/ES. In the previous three-year term, she was a member of the Maritime and Port Law Committee of the Federal Council of the OAB. She also serves as an arbitrator at the Brazilian Center for Mediation and Arbitration (CBMA) and is a member of the Women in Shipping and Trade Association (WISTA) and the Brazilian Association of Maritime Law (ABDM).
Livia has taught Maritime Law at Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV/RJ) and has contributed to several publications in the fields of maritime and offshore energy law, including the Brazilian jurisdiction chapter in Shipping, published by Chambers and Partners. She is also the author of various articles on arbitration, procedural law, and civil law.
