After completing a postgraduate degree (DEA) in Business and Economic Law at Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, graduating from ESCP Business School, and obtaining an LL.M. from Georgetown University in the United States, Laurent Karila began his professional career in 1993 with an extensive practice in trademark law, business law and criminal law, an area towards which his role as Secrétaire de la Conférence du Stage initially led him. He soon shifted exclusively to construction law, a field he has since developed both through his legal practice and his activities as an author and lecturer, which began in 2006 with the publication of his leading reference work on construction law by LexisNexis, the third edition of which was published in November 2017.
Laurent Karila has received training in arbitration from International Chamber of Commerce and Centre de Médiation et d’Arbitrage de Paris. He has also been trained in mediation by the CMAP and CEDR (Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution) and is an accredited mediator with the latter organisation.
