Kavitha Vijay is a Senior Partner at Chugh Universal Legal, where she heads the Chennai office. A founding member of the Firm, she has been instrumental in building the Chennai practice from its inception into a reputed, multi-disciplinary team with strong recognition in the corporate, private equity, and M&A space.

With over 20 years of experience, Kavitha specialises in Mergers & Acquisitions, Private Equity investments. Her practice also spans corporate and regulatory advisory, real estate, infrastructure, banking & finance (including NBFC-MFIs), capital markets, fintech, agritech, media & entertainment, and energy (renewable and conventional).

She is particularly known for her ability to successfully close complex transactions through a combination of innovative structuring, sharp negotiation, and effective execution.

Prior to joining Chugh Universal Legal, she worked at Crawford Bayley & Co. in Mumbai under Suresh N. Talwar, gaining strong foundational experience in corporate law.

Kavitha has been a key dealmaker on several notable transactions and advises a distinguished client base, including leading business houses and institutions such as Apollo Group, Saksoft Group, AVT Group, SWELECT Group, Latent View, Aster Hospitals, Varthana Finance, Berar Finance, Zephyr Peacock, Annapurna Microfinance, Aavishkaar Group, and others. She also works closely with HNIs and family groups, advising on succession planning, estate management, and structuring of rights and responsibilities.

In addition to her transactional practice, Kavitha has extensive experience in real estate matters, including land aggregation, joint development, leasing, sales, mortgage transactions, and real estate diligence as part of M&A deals.

Beyond her professional work, Kavitha is deeply committed to social responsibility and workplace ethics. She serves as an Independent External Member on Internal Committees constituted under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, and is actively involved in pro bono initiatives supporting community development.
