Joshua P. Galper is a founding partner of Trident GMG, the premier strategic communications, stakeholder and risk advisory, and crisis management firm. He has more than 25 years of experience working at the intersection of communications, policy and regulation, law, and business, including at top global law firms and as general counsel for a venture-backed tech company.

Josh is a trusted strategist and crisis manager for companies, C-suite executives, public figures and leaders, founders and entrepreneurs, boards of directors, and investors. His experience is wide-ranging and spans numerous sectors and companies across all stages of growth, from startups to global brands. He has also worked with venture capital and private equity investors, nonprofits and NGOs, universities and other educational institutions, high-profile individuals, family offices, and philanthropies, among many other types of clients.

Chambers USA recognizes Trident with its highest firm ranking of Band 1 in both its crisis and risk communications and litigation and investigations communications guides, and Josh is individually ranked Band 1 in both guides.

Josh’s counsel and expertise span: corporate and strategic communications, crisis management, and media relations; stakeholder management and solutions; risk advisory; reputation management; litigation communications, including civil, criminal, and appellate matters; regulatory, congressional, state attorneys general, and other types of government investigations; public policy, government relations and public affairs.

Before co-founding Trident in 2016, Josh served for nearly five years as the Chief Policy Officer, General Counsel, Head of Communications, SVP-Business Development, and Corporate Secretary of Personal.com (acquired by Digi.me in 2017). As a senior member of the company’s management team, Josh helped drive strategy and growth and co-led the privacy and cybersecurity teams.

From 2003-2011, Josh helped to build the Public Strategies and Crisis Management Practice at Patton Boggs and then at Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe, where he became a partner and co-chaired the group. Josh began his legal career at Sidley Austin in Washington, D.C. in 2000 as one of the first lawyers in the firm’s global privacy and cyber-security law group.

From 2014-2017, Josh served on the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Data Privacy and Integrity Advisory Committee, an appointment made by then-DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson to advise DHS on technology, policies and programs. Josh has been recognized as a Privacy by Design ambassador and has been a member of World Economic Forum and Aspen Institute initiatives about privacy and data-driven development.

Josh has taught semester-long courses on legal crisis management as an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center. He has been named a top corporate legal counsel in Washington, D.C., by the Association of Corporate Counsel and a Cybersecurity Data Privacy Trailblazer by National Law Journal. He has served as an expert mentor at tech incubators and on the ALM Advisory Board on Cybersecurity and Data Privacy, and has been a Council on Foreign Relations Term Member.

Josh graduated from Yale College in 1994 and Yale Law School in 1999, and is admitted to practice law in Washington, D.C., and Illinois.
