Joe provides commercially focused legal advice to ship owners, charterers, P&I Clubs and property insurers on both ‘dry’ and ‘wet’ shipping matters, including unsafe port claims, speed and performance disputes, demurrage and off-hire disputes, as well as collisions, salvage and general average claims.

Career

Before coming ashore, Joe spent 13 years at sea, during which he held command of the AMSA ETV and the Trinity House vessel “Patricia”. Joe has also sailed onboard passenger ro-ro vessels and tankers. After coming ashore, Joe was awarded both the GDL and LPC with distinction. He qualified in December 2020.

Recent work highlights include:

- Representing commercial salvors in relation to the salvage of a stricken vessel on Lloyd’s Open Form terms.

- Representing Owners and their insurers in relation to a collision between a VLCC and a container vessel in the Singapore Straits.

- Representing Owners in the defence of a refrigerated fruit cargo claim in the sum of €3.4 million.

- Representing Owners in an unsafe port claim in the sum of US$5.4 million.

- Representing Charterers in a demurrage claim in the sum of US$690,000.

- Representing Owners in a claim for recovery of general average contributions in the sum of US$550,000.
