Career

Jose María Alfin is the founder and Managing Partner of FINTAX. He is mainly focused in tax matters in the Principality of Andorra but also in international taxation and Spanish tax matters due to his nationality and the origin of many of his clients.

He started his career in the Aequitas Project of the European Union, representing the Commercial & Land Registrars of Spain in relation with the creation of a harmonized legal framework for the standardization and cross border movements of companies in the European Union.

He was the Head of Legal & Tax; Compliance and Internal Audit at General Motors RFC for Spain. He was a member of its Spanish and European Executive Committee. He has also worked for the international Andorra bank ANDBANK, as Chief Legal Counsel and Director of Wealth Planning Services.

Later, he decided to move to the private sector and in Cases Lacambra he managed the tax practice in Andorra. As partner of Cases Lacambra, he regularly advised Banks, Investment Funds and other financial entities. He was also very focused on the particularities and problems of HNWI and UHNWI in Andorra and other countries (especially Spanish individuals and people from South America). He is also very experienced in the transformation process suffered by Andorra the last years in terms of CRS; BEPS and the introduction of the tax system, where he advised in some issues.

Jose Maria Alfin is specialized in tax (especially international tax, compliance and related matters) estate planning, banking, foreign investments and financial law and has extensive experience advising families, individuals, companies and enterprises, both local and internationally. He is a regular speaker on banking, compliance, financial and tax. Likewise, he is the correspondent of the top international online tax magazine IBFD (International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation).

He has been professor of tax compliance at the Master in Compliance at ESADE and he use to participate in conferences in several institutions such as Associations of Professionals (Col·legi Economistes de Catalunya) and other entities.

He has been ranked in Chambers as from 2020.

He is member of the Barcelona Bar Association and Andorra Bar Association; Spanish Association of Tax Advisors; Andorra Association of Tax Advisors and International Fiscal Association.
