Earlier in his career, he was a partner at Grasty Quintana Majlis & Cía. and at Bofill Mir & Álvarez Jana. Alongside his private practice, he taught at the University of Chile School of Law between 1998 and 2019 and served on the Board of the Chilean Bar Association between 2008 and 2020. He has also played an active role in major law-reform processes in Chile, including the criminal procedure reform, the debate on Law No. 20,393 on corporate criminal liability, and the drafting of a new Criminal Code, which he coordinated in 2013 and 2018. In 2015, he was appointed by the UN Secretary-General as the only Latin American member of the six-person panel charged with reviewing the UN internal justice system.
