Jonathan is a genuine specialist in the law of charities, in which he undertakes both contentious and non-contentious work.
His recent cases include Governors of the Free School of John Lyon v Attorney General (High Court) on the cy-près jurisdiction and the nature of charitable statutory and charter corporations, and Mohammed v Daji (Court of Appeal) on the establishment and interpretation of charitable trusts by fundraising appeal. He is Junior Counsel to the Treasury in Charity Matters, advising the Attorney General in their constitutional function as defender of charity and the charitable interest and representing them in litigation where necessary.
He is also co-editor of the leading textbook, Tudor on Charities, 11th ed. (Thomson Reuters) and is widely published in charity law.
