John advises insurers, reinsurers, fraternal societies, banks and insurance intermediaries on regulatory compliance, strategic initiatives and obtaining approvals and orders from Canadian federal and provincial insurance regulators.
He also conducts professional liability risk management audits and insurance program coverage reviews for major Canadian law firms.
John was formerly a partner in the Financial Services Group of McCarthy Tétrault LLP, where he provided opinion advice and worked on major Canadian insurance mergers & acquisitions. Before joining McCarthy’s in 1987, John worked for eight years in the insurance and reinsurance industry as a property and casualty insurance broker, a reinsurance broker and a treaty and facultative reinsurance underwriter.
John is a co-author contributor to Butterworths' Insurance Companies Act – Legislation and Commentary.
