John has a very broad experience in consumer finance and financial services regulation, with specialisms in mortgages, consumer credit, consumer contracts and insurance. He is ranked by Chambers in Band 2 for consumer finance, a UK-wide ranking. He is a key trusted advisor to Lloyds Banking Group, TSB Bank and Sainsbury's Bank, amongst others. He is head of MFMac's consumer finance team.
John sits on the advisory group assisting the Scottish Law Commission's review of the law relating to heritable securities.
John has completed a number of recent secondments with clients supporting a range of digital banking projects. He is increasingly requested by London and regional firms to provide outsourced financial services regulatory advice.
John is a Banking and Finance partner based in Edinburgh and heads our consumer finance team.
John has over 30 years' experience as a Banking and Finance lawyer and his expertise lies in financial services regulation. He is recognised as one of the UK's leading specialists on the regulation of consumer credit and mortgages.
John regularly advises financial institutions, including the main high street banks and building societies. In particular, he provides strategic and comprehensive advice on mortgage and consumer credit related areas and more generally on product, contract and insurance matters.
