Jeffrey Bookbinder, the founder of Bookbinder Business Law, is one of Botswana’s leading corporate legal advisors. Jeffrey’s main areas of work are corporate law, insolvency, banking, mergers and acquisitions, commercial advisory, and alternative dispute resolution. He has been described by clients in Chambers as "one of the leading lawyers in the market." Highly experienced, he is active across the full spectrum of corporate and commercial law.
Jeffrey has been a practising attorney for over thirty years and has extensive experience in providing custom advice on rehabilitation, restructuring and insolvency (including sequestration). He has many years of experience representing both creditors and debtors during insolvency/liquidation proceedings. He has provided financial restructuring solutions including schemes of compromise with creditors, restructuring and reorganizations and has experience in drafting petitions for liquidation of medium size to large companies, advising liquidators, filing creditor’s claims and representing clients in proving their claims in court.
He also advises and assists directors to ensure they meet their obligations in circumstances where the company is insolvent, advising on potential allegations of reckless trading, transactions for under value and undue preference, amongst others. Jeffrey has extensive experience as trustee, liquidator and statutory manager. Jeffrey was instructed by the Government of Botswana to assist in the winding up and restructuring of BCL Limited, this being the largest restructuring in Botswana history.
Jeffrey is recognised as a highly regarded lawyer in the 2022 edition of IFLR1000, and further recognised as a leading banking lawyer in Who’s Who Legal 2023, leading restructuring and insolvency lawyer in Who’s Who Legal 2023, and is listed in Chambers as a Notable Practitioner in Band One.
