Jeff Eberhard is an experienced trial lawyer who has litigated a wide variety of disputes for clients including Fortune 500 companies, high-frequency trading and investment firms, REITs, private equity firms, technology companies, and individuals and small businesses. Since 2018, he has been ranked by Chambers & Partners as a recognized practitioner for General Commercial Litigation in Illinois.
He handles matters related to civil litigation, securities and commodities enforcement and regulation, as well as white-collar defense.
Career
Jeff spent 10 years at Jenner & Block, where he was a partner in the Securities Litigation and Enforcement practice group and focused his practice on complex litigation and enforcement matters involving the financial services industry.
He joined Gair Eberhard in 2014.

Experience
Jeff has extensive experience conducting internal investigations and representing companies and individuals in investigations by the DOJ, SEC, CFTC, FINRA, and securities and commodities exchanges. He also serves as counsel for the Business Conduct Committee Hearing Panel of the Cboe Futures Exchange.
Work Highlights
• Representing a trading firm in an SEC investigation regarding market-making on an electronic platform and representing individuals in “spoofing” cases.
• Winning arbitration of a multi-million dollar earnout dispute on behalf of a manufacturing company following its purchase of a family-owned business.
• Recovering $1.8 million on behalf of a technology firm for breach of a development contract.
• Representing seven trading professionals and a high-frequency trading firm in a noncompetition and trade secret claim brought by a competitor.
• Representing a large creditor in the Thomas Petters Ponzi scheme bankruptcy to obtain allowance of a multi-million dollar claim.
• Representing 50% shareholder and director of a closely-held corporation in a lawsuit involving claims under the Illinois Business Corporation Act.
• Representing an investor defrauded out of $20 million by investment partners.
• Winning dismissal of a $5 million claim under Illinois Fiduciary Obligations Act on behalf of a major Wall Street bank.
• Representing the trustee for Sentinel Management Group, Inc. in dozens of lawsuits against Sentinel’s former executives, clearing and custodial banks, brokers, auditors, and former customers and succeeding in recovering hundreds of millions of dollars on behalf of Sentinel’s creditors.
