Jay Alexander is an independent arbitrator, with over 35 years of experience in international dispute resolution. He serves as chair/presiding, sole, and co-arbitrator in high stakes international arbitrations. He is a Fellow of the College of Commercial Arbitrators and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Until 2022, he was a senior partner in the London office of Baker Botts, where he led that Firm's international arbitration practice and appeared as counsel in international arbitrations with aggregate amounts in dispute of more than $100 billion. He has substantial experience with disputes involving energy (including oil & gas, LNG, power), natural resources, joint ventures, telecommunications and technology, finance, defense, and construction. His international arbitration work has been global, with disputes arising throughout the world and seated in the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
Mr. Alexander graduated from Dartmouth College (AB, summa cum laude) and Stanford Law School (JD, with Distinction). Following law school, he served as a judicial law clerk to the Hon. Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
