Javier Canosa is Managing Partner of Canosa Abogados and has more than 25 years of experience advising domestic and international clients on corporate, tax, banking, regulatory and private wealth matters.
His practice is particularly focused on cross-border M&A, foreign investment, shareholders’ agreements, corporate governance, financing, large-scale investment projects, FinTech and digital-assets regulation, and the tax-efficient structuring and transfer of family wealth. He regularly coordinates multidisciplinary assignments involving corporate, tax, foreign exchange, regulatory and dispute-resolution considerations.
Javier advises multinational companies, financial institutions, technology and digital-asset businesses, mining sponsors and investors, family offices and high-net-worth individuals. He also has experience in local and international arbitration, commercial disputes and family wealth controversies.
Alongside his legal practice, Javier regularly participates as a speaker, chair and moderator at international legal and private-client conferences. He currently holds leadership positions within the American Bar Association and STEP LatAm and has been recognised by Best Lawyers in Argentina in Administrative Law since 2020.

Javier advises multinational companies, financial institutions, global technology and digital-asset platforms, mining companies and investors, family offices, entrepreneurs and high-net-worth individuals.
Javier is based in Buenos Aires. Outside his legal practice, he has a strong interest in history, political economy, public policy and international affairs. He also enjoys travelling and sports.
MINERA SAN JORGE – COPPER PROJECT AND RIGI APPROVAL
Led the legal team advising the controlling shareholder group of Minera San Jorge on the introduction of a new equity investor, including the acquisition of shares, the negotiation of shareholders’ agreements, corporate governance arrangements, future capital contributions and financing alternatives.
Javier also advised on the comprehensive legal structuring and successful RIGI accession of the PSJ Cobre Mendocino project. The approved project involves eligible investment exceeding USD613 million and is one of Argentina’s first mining projects, and Mendoza’s first copper project, approved under the Large Investment Incentive Regime.
The work included structuring the Single Project Vehicle, preparing the accession application and investment plan, coordinating the local-supplier and risk-mitigation plans, liaising with mining, economic and Central Bank authorities, and designing the applicable dispute-resolution framework.

LEADING GLOBAL DIGITAL-ASSET EXCHANGE
Advises one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges on its establishment and ongoing operations in Argentina. The mandate encompasses corporate structuring, market entry, tax and foreign-exchange matters, VASP and payment-services regulation, AML compliance, banking relationships, digital payments, QR products, commercial agreements and engagement with the Argentine Central Bank, National Securities Commission and Financial Intelligence Unit.
The assignment requires the coordination of global business models with Argentina’s rapidly evolving corporate, financial, tax and digital-assets regulatory framework.
CENTURY-OLD FAMILY TRUST
Designed and implemented the corporate and tax structure required for the collection and distribution of assets held through a family trust established more than 100 years ago. The structure addressed the different tax residences and legal circumstances of the beneficiaries and required coordination across multiple jurisdictions.
The mandate combined private-client, trust, succession, corporate and cross-border tax expertise to facilitate an orderly and tax-efficient distribution of the family wealth.

Javier has particular experience in sectors in which corporate structuring, taxation and regulation are closely interconnected.
In mining and natural resources, he advises shareholders, sponsors and investors on acquisitions, joint ventures, shareholders’ agreements, financing, governance, regulatory approvals and investment-incentive regimes, including Argentina’s RIGI.
In FinTech, payments and digital assets, he assists international platforms with market entry, local entities, VASP and PSP requirements, AML compliance, banking arrangements, taxation, foreign-exchange regulations and the implementation of new payment products.
His private wealth practice covers family offices, trusts, foundations, succession planning, asset protection, tax residency, cross-border transfers and disputes among family members or beneficiaries. He also advises financial institutions, technology companies and real estate investors on complex Argentine and cross-border matters.
Javier’s principal jurisdiction of legal expertise is Argentina.
