Jan Ekelmans

Jan Ekelmans is a lawyer and partner at BLD Ekelmans. He is an authority in the field of insurance law in the Netherlands. Insurers seek his advice on complex and politically sensitive matters. Jan is especially known for his litigation, professional liability, D&O and healthcare insurance expertise and advises market leaders in health care, liability and life insurance.

Jan Ekelmans has been a partner at BLD Ekelmans since 1994. Before joining the firm, he worked for Stibbe in Amsterdam and New York in the corporate law and litigation practice. For a number of years Jan was a deputy justice at the Arnhem–Leeuwarden court of appeal and a crown appointed member of the advisory committee that advises the Dutch Parliament and Government on civil procedural law.

Jan Ekelmans published a Phd thesis on discovery of documents, a practical handbook on the law of civil procedure and a treatise on Health care insurance. The book on health care insurance provides the first practical and thorough overview of legal opportunities and challenges in the Dutch 80 billion euro market of healthcare.
