Practice Areas
James is head of our Birmingham employment practice and deals predominantly with private sector work. With 23 years’ experience of all aspects of employment law across both contentious and non-contentious issues, he advises the firm’s tech, retail and Higher Education clients.
James has been involved in several high-profile reported cases in the EAT, High Court and Court of Appeal. He advises on cross-border transactions, advising on TUPE compliance including warranties and indemnities; confidentiality/trade secrets and enforcing restrictive covenants; and discrimination and whistleblowing claims.
James regularly trains clients, speaks at conferences on employment law and has published many articles for the local and industry press. James undertakes international employment work and sits on the firm's international desk as a member of the firm’s Pangea Employment group, a network of international lawyers. James is the President of the British American Business Council (Midlands), an organisation that promotes transatlantic trade and business. He is also a trustee of B:Music which manages the world-renowned Town and Symphony Halls in Birmingham.

James is a board member and Vice President of the Transatlantic Chamber (formerly the British American Business Council) in the Midlands. He is also a trustee of Performances Birmingham Limited.
