Throughout his time as a barrister James has been consistently briefed by solicitors from leading firms in significant and hard-fought commercial and public law cases and appeared alongside counsel held in the highest regard by the profession.
James practises widely in commercial law, including contracts, trade practices and commercial equity, corporations and insolvency, financial services, construction, commercial planning and development, and commercial property disputes. He also has considerable experience in public law and disputes involving State and federal government agencies (particularly relating to infrastructure). He was admitted as a barrister in 2010 and took silk in 2022, with the distinction of being the counsel who took the shortest time to reach silk in his cohort.
James appears frequently in the Supreme Court of NSW and the Federal Court of Australia, in both individual proceedings and class actions. He also appears frequently in commercial arbitrations and has appeared in numerous high-profile cases relating to the law of arbitration.
