Jim's busy practice is global in scope with particular emphasis on offshore trust planning, planning for non-US individuals and foreign assets, investment and planning for family offices, inbound and outbound business and investment transactions and international income and transfer tax planning. His practice often involves the US inbound and outbound movement of international families and their business and investment assets. He also advises on corporate and partnership tax planning for closely held businesses, investment entities and funds management entities, mergers and acquisitions and insurance and derivatives investment tax planning.
Jim also advises his clients on planning for use of private placement life insurance (PPLI) and annuities for tax efficient investing. Jim has lectured before numerous professional groups including STEP, BNA, Trust and Estates, Expert Webcast, the Institute for International Research and the International Tax Planning Association on partnership, estate tax, life insurance and foreign investment planning issues and has written articles for professional journals and newsletters on various tax topics. Several of the recent lectures have focused on international tax planning for US domestic estate planners, international use of private placement insurance and deferred variable annuities, planning for the Medicare tax on net investment income and post-election U.S. tax reform.
