Jaclyn Seidman is a partner, member of the Executive Committee, co-head of a business law group, and co-chair of the Women’s Success Committee at Goodmans. Her practice focuses on entertainment law, intellectual property and a broad range of corporate/commercial matters.

Jaclyn represents major U.S., international and Canadian studios, broadcasters, producers, literary, and business clients on a broad range of media-related matters, including rights acquisitions, production legal matters, clearance and copyright matters. Jaclyn is also a corporate/commercial lawyer who regularly acts on a broad range of transactions, including acquisitions, complex licensing arrangements and advises on a wide range of business operations matters.

Career

In 2018, Jaclyn was honoured as one of Lexpert’s Rising Stars: Leading Lawyers Under 40. She is recognized by Chambers Canada, The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, The Legal 500 Canada and Best Lawyers in Canada as a leading entertainment lawyer.

Professional Memberships

Jaclyn is a Trustee on the Board of Trustees of The Royal Ontario Museum, serves as Chair of its Governance Committee, and as a member of its Executive Committee. Jaclyn has also served on the boards of several non-profit organizations, including the Jewish Chamber of Commerce and the McGill Alumni Association - Toronto Branch and is a founding member of the advisory council for McGill’s Women, Leadership and Philanthropy Initiative. Jaclyn is an expert practitioner on Practical Law Canada’s Corporate and Commercial Transactions Advisory Board.

Jaclyn teaches business law courses at the University of Toronto’s Rotman Commerce business school and is the recipient of several Excellence in Teaching awards. She is also a regular guest lecturer at the University of Toronto’s law school. Jaclyn is a frequent speaker and panelist at seminars on a range of entertainment and media-related issues.

She is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, Canadian Bar Association, Ontario Bar Association, Entertainment, Media and Communications Law Past Section Executive, WIFT-T Women in Film and Television – Toronto.

Publications

She was a contributing editor to Canadian Forms and Precedents: Commercial Transactions – Information Technology and Entertainment published by LexisNexis. She co-authored the Goodmans Guide to Producing in Canada and Doing Business with Canadians.
