Ira Coleman is the chairman of McDermott Will & Schulte. Under Ira’s leadership, the firm has achieved an unmatched upward trajectory among Am Law 100 firms – attracting top-tier talent, broadening its global reach, and strengthening key practices. In 2025, he led the groundbreaking merger with Schulte Roth & Zabel. This landmark deal united two elite firms to form McDermott Will & Schulte, a new powerhouse in Big Law that exemplifies innovation and strategic growth, and redefines what it means to be a modern, elite firm.

He continues to maintain an active legal practice, advising healthcare clients – particularly private equity firms – on high-stakes mergers, acquisitions, and disputes that have “bet the company” implications. Ira also serves as the general counsel for the Healthcare Private Equity Association (HCPEA). He presents regularly at private equity, national healthcare, and leadership-focused conferences on a variety of subjects. He has authored and been quoted in numerous articles about private equity, health law, and leadership.
