Ilan Katz

lan Katz is a trusted adviser to financial institutions, insurance companies, corporations and private clients in complex criminal matters. With more than 20 years of experience in criminal litigation, his practice focuses on sophisticated criminal proceedings, with particular experience in property-related offences, financial and banking crimes, money laundering matters and offences involving public officials.

He represents clients before both local and federal authorities, acting in defence mandates as well as on behalf of victims and complainants. His approach combines extensive litigation experience with close involvement in each matter and the development of strategies tailored to the legal, procedural and reputational risks facing his clients.

Ilan obtained his law degree from Universidad Iberoamericana and has continued his professional development throughout his career. His postgraduate studies include a Diploma in Money Laundering and Compliance: National and International Perspectives, organised by the Barra Mexicana, Colegio de Abogados, A.C. and the Asociación Iberoamericana de Derecho Penal Económico y de la Empresa. In December 2019, he received an honorary doctorate from the Claustro Nacional de Doctores Honoris Causa.

Alongside his private practice, Ilan maintains an active role in Mexico’s legal community. He has participated as a speaker and lecturer in criminal law programmes and conferences in Mexico and internationally, and has contributed legal commentary to television, radio and specialised legal publications.
