Harish has had a versatile practice encompassing both disputes and international commercial transactions, offering him a unique advantage as a Senior Advocate. After being designated as a Senior Advocate, Harish currently acts only as an arguing counsel and arbitrator.
As a commercial transaction lawyer, Harish has worked on several mergers & acquisitions, corporate restructurings, private equity and venture capital, foreign investment, technology, banking & finance, regulatory and real estate transactions. Harish was particularly active in cross border transactions and has represented clients in transactions involving jurisdictions such as the USA, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Singapore, China, Japan, Malaysia, UAE, South Africa , Australia, and Brazil.
Harish was one of the founders of Samvad Partners, where he continued as a partner until he was designated as a Senior Advocate.
Harish practices before the Supreme Court, various High Courts and tribunals in India. His practice spans corporate and commercial, competition, tax, foreign investment, white collar crime, banking, regulatory and real estate disputes.
In arbitration, Harish has acted both as a counsel and an arbitrator. Harish has a rich experience in arbitrations involving shareholder disputes, technology collaboration and licensing agreements, mergers & acquisitions and other commercial agreements.
Harish has been appointed as arbitrator both in ad-hoc and institutional arbitrations.
Harish practiced as a Solicitor in London with the international law firm Herbert Smith (now Herbert Smith Freehills) between 1998 and 2002. Harish’s primary areas of practice were company law, cross-border mergers & acquisitions, energy & projects, infrastructure law and insurance law.
Harish is the author of the Rule of Law in India- A Quest for Reason, (OUP, 2018) and the Entrepreneurs’ Legal Guide to Business, (EBC, 2016, Co-authored).
Harish is also the joint editor of Daksh’s pioneering publications – State of the Indian Judiciary – A Report by Daksh, Approaches to Justice – A Report by Daksh, Justice Frustrated: The Systemic Impact of Delays in Indian Courts and Constitutional Ideals- Development and Realisation through Court Led Justice.
Harish’s clients include Fortune 500 companies, Global and Indian multinational conglomerates, leading international banks, private equity and venture capital firms, many successful startups, and innovative technology companies. Harish has also represented the Competition Commission of India and various public sector undertakings in litigation and arbitration across various forums in India.
