Goutam “Gooch” Patnaik is a partner of Desmarais LLP, where his practice focuses on representing innovators in their most challenging intellectual property and commercial matters, with a particular emphasis on patent disputes. He has particularly deep experience with Section 337 investigations before the International Trade Commission (ITC) and litigation in key patent venues such as the U.S. District Courts for the Western District of Texas, the District of Delaware, and the U.S. Court of Federal Claims. He has litigated matters involving a variety of industries and technologies, including automated warehouse technology, intraoral digital scanners and related software, digital audio processing, integrated circuit design, sucralose manufacturing, online medical monitoring systems, and wireless technology. Mr. Patnaik also handles transactional IP work, negotiating and drafting licensing agreements for the development, use, and maintenance of software applications in the banking and insurance industries, as well as patent licenses and other IP-related agreements. He has taught ITC Policy and Procedure as an adjunct professor at Antonin Scalia Law School of George Mason University since 2013 and is a member of the executive committee of the International Trade Commission Trial Lawyers Association, including serving as its President for the 2019-2020 term.
