Gary has spent more than 40 years at the forefront of intellectual property law, representing clients in major UK, European and US IP disputes. He joined EIP in 2011 to establish and grow the firm's litigation practice and has since overseen some of the most significant cases in the field. In April 2023, Gary became Chairman of EIP, a role that enables him to draw on his extensive experience to help shape the firm's strategic direction and long-term growth.

Throughout his career, Gary has built an outstanding track record in complex and high-profile litigation. In recent years, he has led teams acting in cases including Good Technology v AirWatch, Good Technology v MobileIron and Research In Motion v Visto Corporation. He also led Kirin-Amgen v Hoechst Marion Roussel, a landmark case that remained the leading authority on patent claim construction for many years.

Gary went on to lead the successful claimants in the Supreme Court cases Unwired Planet v Huawei and Conversant Wireless v Huawei and ZTE, which are regarded as globally significant decisions on fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory (FRAND) licensing of standard-essential patents (SEPs). More recently, he represented the claimants in Optis Wireless v Apple, another landmark case that has helped shape the legal framework for FRAND disputes worldwide.
