My practice is built on tax law in both of its dimensions: litigation, before the judicial and administrative courts, and consulting. On the contentious side I handle the annulment of tax debts, the challenge of infraction notices, the defense of tax foreclosures, and the representation of clients as amicus curiae in matters of general importance. On the advisory side I deliver opinions and planning across the federal and state system, with particular depth in ICMS, PIS and COFINS, IRPJ and CSLL, ISS and IOF, and I structure and restructure companies' tax practices around compliance, planning, and the identification of tax opportunities. Around this core I advise on corporate and contractual matters, on the structuring of holdings and regulated entities, and on the tax and regulatory treatment of payment institutions and digital assets.
Founding partner of Amarante de Mendonça Advogados, where I jointly head the tax practice.
I spent 23 years at Sacha Calmon Misabel Derzi Consultores e Advogados, one of the leading tax firms in Brazil, where I rose to senior partner and led its Rio de Janeiro office. Over those years I advised national and international companies, with a concentration in the telecommunications, services, and industrial sectors, on the structuring and restructuring of their tax positions and on high stakes litigation, before founding my own firm and carrying that practice forward.
Member of the Tax Affairs Study Committee (Comissão de Estudos de Assuntos Tributários, CEAT) of the Rio de Janeiro Bar (OAB/RJ).
I advise Brazilian and international companies, with a concentration in telecommunications, industry, services, healthcare, energy, agribusiness, and financial services, ranging from listed groups and family holdings to regulated institutions, on tax disputes, tax planning, corporate structuring, and the tax side of acquisitions.
