Emre assists his clients in two main areas of expertise.

Shipping & Transport

With over a decade of experience in assisting owners, charterers, P&I and H&M insurers and their commercial correspondents, Emre is well-versed in both wet and dry work, mainly in collisions, groundings, and salvage claims. He provides support or takes the lead, as the client prefers, from negotiations to security arrangements, from evidence gathering to legal proceedings or amicable settlement until the full and satisfactory conclusion of the matter he is dealing with. He continues to lead major casualties occurring in Turkish waters.

Especially in recent years, Emre has been receiving increasing number of instructions as a defence counsel in maritime criminal law matters. He mostly represents crew members, owners and/or managers during the investigation and subsequent prosecution stages of offences of smuggling illegal narcotics, bunkers, radioactive materials, and similar items. He also represents clients in criminal prosecutions arising from crew accidents and casualties.

Emre has also had the opportunity to assist his clients in other areas of transport such as carriage by road as well as railroad and aviation disputes.

Emre’s clients include MSC, A.P. Moller – Maersk A/S, CMA CGM, Oldendorff Carriers, Hapag-Lloyd and Arkas.

Transactional & Finance

On the transactional side, Emre provides assistance in banking and finance matters and mostly represents foreign lenders with a variety of financing structures involving Turkish counterparties or security providers. Following his postgraduate law degree in UC Berkeley and experience working at an internationally renowned finance law firm in London, he started to assist numerous leading financiers lending to the Turkish market. While Emre’s interest and focus began with ship financing transactions given his background in shipping, today Emre assists his clients with regard to corporate, asset and project financing, ship and asset sale and purchase transactions.

Emre’s clients include British, European, Middle Eastern and Far Eastern banks, leasing houses and private equity firms, some of which are EBRD, Credit Suisse, BNP Paribas, Exportfinans ASA, Dekabank, Hamburg Commercial Bank, Royal Bank of Scotland, Bank of China, ICBC/ICBC Leasing, Bank of Communications, CSSC Shipping and Aviation Industry Corporation of China.
