Elliot Polebaum is an independent arbitrator. He has been appointed presiding arbitator, sole arbitrator, or co-arbitrator in more than 100 international arbitrations. Until 2016, he was a partner in the Washington DC and European offices of Fried Frank where he headed the Firm's international arbitration practice and appeared as counsel in more than 140 cases. He has substantial sector experience in the pharmaceutical, energy, construction, aerospace and defense, and technology sectors, among others. This experience has addressed a variety of contractual arrangements including large industrial projects, commercial contracts of all sorts (including supply, distribution, and licensing agreements), mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and cooperation and development agreements.
He is a graduate of Middlebury College (BA), Harvard University (MPA), and New York University School of Law (JD). Following law school, he clerked for United States Circuit Judge James L. Oakes and U.S. Supreme Court Justice William J. Brennan Jr. Mr. Polebaum was also Adjunct Professor of Law at Georgetown University Law Center where he taught international commercial arbitration from the 2004-2005 academic year through 2018 and is the author of the treatise "International Arbitration: Commercial and Investment Treaty Law and Practice" (ALM/Law Journal Press).
