Acting in inquests and inquiries, health and safety and regulatory prosecutions and civil claims, Elizabeth is an experienced advocate and accredited mediator, used to sensitively tackling complex problems of law and evidence in the first instance and appellate courts and through ADR.
Elizabeth acts for a range of IPs and CPs from families to regulators to private and public sector clients. She has particular expertise in deaths in hospitals, care and supported living, fire-related fatalities, rail and road accidents, mental health suicides, notifiable accidents and child deaths. Elizabeth also acts in public inquiries, including the Grenfell Tower Inquiry.
Elizabeth lectures and writes articles on aspects of coronial law, for example on deaths in healthcare, medical examiner roles and disclosure obligations in coroners’ courts. She is experienced in jury and Middleton hearings, ECHR Prevention of Future Deaths Reports, and judicial review.
Elizabeth is a seasoned health and safety practitioner, familiar with advising and representing clients prosecuted by enforcing authorities for the most serious charges and guiding strategy in concurrent civil claims. Elizabeth has defended high-profile charges ranging from gross negligence manslaughter to Environmental Protection Act matters.
She has significant experience of strategic litigation and in recent years Elizabeth has performed legal project management for clients, overseeing case management, investigations, disclosure and expert instruction, working with stakeholders, and delivering legal education. This has included managing inter-disciplinary teams.
