Dirk Ormel has been practicing law since 2012, initially with a regional law firm in Curaçao before relocating to Aruba later that same year to continue his legal career. He was admitted to the bar of the Dutch Caribbean (Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, and the BES islands) in 2012.
Dirk’s practice primarily focuses on corporate law, finance, and mergers & acquisitions (M&A). He is also highly skilled in corporate, civil, and administrative litigation.
Over the years, Dirk has played a central role in numerous significant local and international transactions. His recent work includes advising a financial institution on the acquisition of a bank in Aruba. More so, Dirk has provided counsel to both buyers and sellers in various M&A transactions across different sectors in Aruba and Curaçao. He frequently advises financial institutions and corporate clients on finance-related matters.
In 2019, Dirk successfully completed an advanced post-academic course in Mergers & Acquisitions at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. In 2021, he was elected as the Dean (Deken) of the Aruba Bar Association, a role he held until early 2023.
In addition to his legal practice, Dirk serves as a deputy member and deputy chairman of the Objection Advisory Committee for the Public Body of Bonaire.
