Advises on all aspects of estate planning/administration, with an emphasis on sophisticated plans for high-net-worth individuals and their families. Practice includes preparation of complex wills/trust agreements, estate and gift tax audits, and general counseling in all phases of administration of decedents’ estates/trusts. Experience advising on fiduciaries on their duties/responsibilities in managing estates/trusts. Represents public charities/private foundations/charitable trusts. Practice has evolved to include the representation of single family and multi-family offices in all aspects of the services they provide to their families. These include, but are not limited to, formation, governance, succession planning, maintaining the “family office exclusion”, management and tax compliance of family entities (trusts, LLCs, partnerships), assisting with the investment responsibilities of the office (alternative investments, creation of pooled funds, direct investment, M&A and securities law advice), philanthropy, litigation, real estate, executive compensation, intellectual property, employment law. Advises directors/trustees of philanthropic organizations on corporate and tax issues.
