Career

Cristina is a founding partner of LOVILL, where she leads the Dispute Resolution team, specializing in litigation, national and international arbitration. She provides counsel on international arbitration under CeCAP, ICC, ICSID, and other regulatory frameworks. Her expertise has been recognized by Chambers & Partners, Legal 500, and Lexology for her achievements in complex international negotiations and disputes. She also serves as an Arbitrator at the Center for Conciliation and Arbitration of the Panama Chamber of Commerce and was the ICC/YAF Latin America representative (2017-2019).

Cristina is known for leading high-profile cases across various industries and is an expert in international law, having represented sovereign states for over a decade. She studied law at the University of Oviedo (Spain), Universidad Católica Santa María La Antigua (Panama), and the University of Warwick (UK) as a Chevening Scholar under the British Council.

Cristina actively represents multinational and regional companies, family offices, and private clients in negotiations and corporate transactions across various sectors, including infrastructure, real estate, telecommunications, finance, energy, hospitality, distribution, and logistics. She also advises on public bidding processes, commercial and investment agreements, and has extensive experience leading Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects in Panama, providing strategic guidance in decision-making and project management. She was selected to serve on the technical dispute resolution panel for the PPP project for the Rehabilitation of the Eastern Pan-American Highway, the first initiative implemented under Panama’s new legal framework for public-private partnerships, further solidifying her leadership in this collaborative model.

She is a member of several international organizations, including the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the American Society and Council of the Americas (AS/COA), and Renaissance Executive Forums (REF), a global organization fostering high-level executive consultancy. Cristina has been recognized as one of Panama’s top female executives, ranking among the 25 women featured in MERCO Líderes, a prestigious corporate reputation monitor.

Work Highlights

• Represented a Dutch multinational corporation in the consumer goods industry, in a dispute against a Panamanian corporation for thirteen (13) million dollars under ICC Rules. Represented the client in the negotiations that led to an amicable settlement of the dispute between the parties’ which enabled the continuation of their commercial relationship.

• Represented a Chinese infrastructure company in breach of obligations regarding contractual agreements related to a multimillion infrastructure port project that after litigation before Panamanian courts until the Supreme Court of Justice concluded in a successful settlement.

• Represented an infrastructure company against a bank for the execution of irrevocable letters of credit in relation to a hydroelectric project with and ongoing international arbitration case under the ICC Rules with precautionary measures.

• Represents an Ecuadorian state entity in a civil dispute for one hundred thirty (130) million dollars related to the diversion of public funds, fraud and seizure of private assets as a consequence of a bank fraud committed during a financial crisis in the represented state.

• Represents a State in enforcement proceedings of a foreign judgment for six-hundred (600) million dollars in multiple jurisdictions, including Ecuador, Panama and the United States.

• Representation of creditors in the liquidation process of an insurance and banking company advise multinational and regional companies, family offices and private funds, in the industries of infrastructure, real estate, financial, telecommunications, pharmaceutical, logistics, distribution and entertainment with their investment and commercial agreements for their investment in the region.
