Career

Connie Bertram is the Founder and Managing Partner of Bertram LLP, a firm based in Washington, D.C.

After 30 years in Big Law, Connie founded Bertram LLP in 2020 to focus on negotiations, investigations and litigation at the executive and board level. Connie represents companies, boards and individual executives and owners in transactions and disputes, including contract and equity disputes, “business divorces,” tort claims, and IP, trade secret and restrictive covenant negotiations and disputes. She frequently conducts confidential internal investigations concerning complaints of C-Suite level executives, including allegations of fraud, theft or misuse of company data, discrimination, harassment and code of conduct violations. She prosecutes and defends breach of fiduciary duty, breach of contract, intentional interference, defamation, trade secret, restrictive covenant and “business divorce” cases across the United States. Connie has been recognized as a top-tier practitioner by Chambers USA for over 15 years.

Connie Bertram is a prolific legal author whose published work addresses the most complex and evolving areas in business litigation and internal investigations. She authored the District of Columbia chapter for the Chambers & Partners HR Internal Investigations Global Practice Guide and the District of Columbia Introduction for the Chambers & Partners USA In-Depth Labor and Employment Overview, two widely referenced resources for practitioners and in-house counsel worldwide. Her blog posts and articles have received numerous awards, including the JD Supra Readers’ Choice Award, JD Supra Readers’ Choice “Top Author” Award, and National Law Review “Go-To Thought Leader” Award. Her additional publications include Sarbanes-Oxley: A New Whistle Stop for Whistleblowers in The Labor Lawyer, Choice of Law and Forum Selection in Non-Competition Agreements published by the Association of Corporate Counsel, and Self-Help Discovery by Employees: Protected Activity or Actionable Misconduct? published by Corporate Counsel and the American Bar Association.

Experience

Connie worked for over 30 years in large, internal law firms, 23 of those years as an equity partner. She served in leadership positions at these firms, including executive committee member, finance committee chair, marketing committee chair, hiring partner, and practice group and division leader.

She served on the Steering Committee for the Labor and Employment Section for the D.C. Bar for six years, three as Chair of the Section. She has spoken and served on panels concerning litigation, employment and ethics topics at ABA Annual Conferences for the Labor and Employment Law Section. For over 25 years, she has been a presenter and instructor for the National Institute for Trial Advocacy’s Building Trial Skills and Deposition Skills programs.
